
Results of the 2020 Gender & Diversity Monitoring
Students
Since the previous report, the share of female students still remains at 35 %. The share of female Master students has since risen from 35 % to 37 % in 2019. However, this increase has been countervailed by slight decreases at the Bachelor’s and Doctorate’s level. As in the previous years, the proportion of female students varies strongly depending on the field of study. For instance, at the Bachelor’s level we have 23 % female students of Economics versus 53 % female students of Law.
Faculty
The appointment procedures have been professionalized in order to tackle gender bias specifically. Hereby, the share of female professors could be increased by four percentage points to 17 % in 2019. Regarding the overall faculty including full professors, associated professors, assistant professors and permanent lecturers, the proportion of women declined slightly by one percentage point to 18 %. Encompassing also the non-permanent lecturers, the share of female faculty amounts to 22 %.
Administration
As previously, the administration features the highest proportion of women. Across all areas and functions, 59 % of the administrative personnel in 2019 are female. Depending on the Service Unit, the proportion of women varies significantly. The share of female personnel is 13 % in the IT Services, in contrast to 74 % in the Library. Within the upper management level, the share of women has developed very well, as it has increased from 32 % to 46 %.
